This Grand old Club that today provides the residents of Hunters Hill and others with the facilities to socialise and to play the games of lawn bowls and tennis in a pleasant and convenient setting was conceived, and started its sometimes turbulent life, in the dawn of the 20th Century shortly before the six British colonies in Australia became the Commonwealth of Australia.

Hunters Hill was then an isolated community accessible from the city by ferry services on both the Lane Cove and Parramatta River. The journey took up to 55 minutes; understandably, as the ferry terminating at Fig Tree, called at 11 wharves. Access by road was by horse drawn vehicle via low level bridges over the Parramatta River and Iron Cove which were built in the 1880’s.

Today , under the umbrella of the Hunters Hill Club Ltd, a men’s bowling club, a women’s bowling club, a tennis section and other community groups use the facilities accumulated over many years and it is again, as designed in the year 1900, a general social and recreational club for local and nearby residents.
